Ontario home energy rebates

20 home energy programs are open in Ontario right now, and 1 more is announced: 15 run by the province, utilities and cities, and 6 federal. For an air-source heat pump, the Home Renovation Savings Program pays up to $2,000 if you heat with natural gas, or up to $7,500 with electricity, oil, propane or wood. The federal National Heat Pump Rebate adds $2,000 (up to $10,000 below the median income) once it opens; there’s no launch date yet.

Ontario homeowners can combine the provincial Home Renovation Savings program with federal heat pump support, and in some cities with municipal loans as well. The rules depend on how you heat your home today. We show which offers apply to you, which need pre-approval, and when each one was last verified.

Ontario rebate questions

Answers are generated from the programs above, so they change when the programs do.

As of October 17, 2026, 15 programs run in Ontario are open or announced: Home Renovation Savings Program, Peak Perks, Energy Affordability Program, Kitchener Utilities Natural Gas Rebates and 11 more. 6 federal programs also apply.

Up to $7,500 for an air-source heat pump today, through Home Renovation Savings Program, if your home and equipment qualify. If your home is heated by natural gas, Home Renovation Savings Program pays up to $2,000 instead. A ground-source (geothermal) system can reach $12,000. The National Heat Pump Rebate will add $2,000 (up to $10,000 for households below the median income) once it opens; it isn’t open yet. Loans are separate and never added to these totals.

Often, yes. Programs run by different levels of government usually stack, but each one sets its own limits. In Ontario, Home Renovation Savings Program, Peak Perks, Energy Affordability Program and 8 more list other programs it can be combined with. Some programs cap total incentives at the cost of the work, so check each one's rules for the same upgrade.

Yes. Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program, Energy Affordability Program, Home Winterproofing Program, BetterHomesTO Furnace Upgrade Program and 1 more offer free or enhanced support to income-qualified households. Income limits depend on household size, and some programs accept renters.

For some programs. Energy Affordability Program, Home Winterproofing Program, Better Homes Ottawa Loan Program and 6 more need an assessment before work starts, while Multigenerational Home Renovation Tax Credit, Electric Vehicle Affordability Program, Home Accessibility Tax Credit and 6 more do not. Book the assessment first if you plan several upgrades.

Canada Greener Homes Loan, Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program, Canada Greener Homes Grant, Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles Program, Canada Secondary Suite Loan Program and 8 more are closed to new applications. Each program page lists the best current alternatives.
