Short answer

For an air-source heat pump in a house you own, the most open programs pay before any income test is up to $15,000 in Yukon, then Newfoundland and Labrador ($9,000) and Ontario ($7,500). In 6 provinces and territories, no open province-wide program pays a fixed heat pump amount without an income test. The federal National Heat Pump Rebate ($2,000, or up to $10,000 below the median income) isn't open yet and isn't in these totals.

Heat pump rebates by province and territory, ranked

Each figure is a program maximum for the rate that fits a typical home in that row, not an average payout. The programs column names the rebate and the home it's for, because the top rate often depends on how your home is heated.

How to read the numbers

  • The home matters. Ontario pays up to $7,500 if your home is heated by electricity, oil, propane or wood, and up to $2,000 if it's heated by Enbridge gas. Read the Ontario guide.
  • Size matters. Several programs pay per ton or per 1,000 BTU/h, so a smaller system gets less than the maximum.
  • Order matters. Some programs need pre-approval or an assessment before work starts. See how stacking works.
  • City programs aren't counted. Loans and city-only rebates are listed on each heat pump page, never added here.

Not yet. The National Heat Pump Rebate was announced on October 8, 2026 with $2,000, or up to $10,000 for households below the median income, but it isn't open and has no launch date. It's shown on its own line, never in a total.

No open province-wide program in our records pays a fixed amount for an air-source heat pump without an income test. City programs, loans and income-qualified programs may still apply: check your province's page.
