Terms of use

These terms apply when you use RebateHub.ca. They’re written to be read: we give general information about public rebate programs, the program itself always has the final word, and nothing here takes away rights you have under consumer protection law.

Independent, not the government

RebateHub is an independent, privately owned website. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for the Government of Canada, Natural Resources Canada, any provincial or territorial government or agency, any municipality, or any electric or gas utility. Program names, logos and trademarks belong to their owners and are used only to identify the programs. A program appearing on RebateHub doesn’t mean its administrator approves of us, our partners or any installer.

We don’t process applications

We don’t accept, process, approve or speed up rebate, grant or loan applications. You never need RebateHub, or need to pay anyone, to apply for a government rebate. Apply only through the official program website we link to.

General information only

We check program details against official sources and show the date each program was last verified. Even so, programs change, run out of funding or close without notice, and some details may be out of date or wrong when you read them.

Eligibility and amounts are decided only by each program’s administrator, based on its own rules, your circumstances and, often, pre-approval or an energy evaluation before you start work. Information on RebateHub is general. It isn’t financial, tax, legal or engineering advice and it isn’t an offer, approval or guarantee that you will receive any rebate, grant, loan or amount. Confirm amounts, eligibility, deadlines and pre-approval requirements with the program before you sign a contract, buy equipment or start work.

“Up to” amounts and estimates

When we write “up to” an amount, it is the program’s published maximum. Most households receive less, depending on the equipment, the work done, the home, income tests and funding still available. We show who qualifies next to the amount wherever we can.

Totals from our finder, stacking estimates and calculators are illustrations based on published program rules and the answers you give. They are not quotes, approvals or promises of payment, and some programs can’t be combined. See how estimates are calculated.

Installers and quotes

If you ask us to, we introduce you to independent installers. They are separate businesses, not our employees, agents or partners in any legal sense. Any quote, contract, price, warranty, permit or workmanship is between you and the installer, and the installer is responsible for it.

We require partners to meet our partner standards: program registration where a program requires it, licences and insurance, honest claims about rebates, no door-to-door selling, and respect for your privacy and unsubscribe requests. We check what we reasonably can, but we don’t guarantee any installer’s work. Check licences and references and compare more than one quote. If an installer breaks these standards, tell us at hello@rebatehub.ca and we’ll act on it.

Requesting quotes is free and you’re never obliged to hire anyone.

Sponsors, affiliates and fees

  • Installers pay us a fee for each quote request we send them, only when you ask to be connected.
  • Some placements are paid for by installers. They are always labelled “Sponsored”, and never appear inside program lists or rankings.
  • Some links to retailers are affiliate links that may earn us a commission. They are disclosed where they appear.

These relationships never change the program facts we publish or the order of neutral program lists. Read more in how we make money.

Acceptable use

You may use RebateHub for personal research and for your work. When you use it, please don’t:

  • submit false information, or someone else’s details without their permission;
  • use our forms to send spam, or to sign someone up for messages they didn’t ask for;
  • attempt to break, overload or get around the site’s security, rate limits or bot checks;
  • scrape the site in a way that degrades it for others (use the open data API instead);
  • copy our pages to present them as your own, or to suggest that RebateHub or a government endorses you;
  • use the site for anything unlawful.

We may block access or remove submissions that break these rules.

Our content and open data

The program dataset is available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence through our open data API. Credit “RebateHub.ca” and link to the source. Guide text, design, images and the RebateHub name and logo remain ours and may not be reused without permission, apart from short quotations with credit and a link. Official program documents and names belong to their owners.

No warranty

To the extent the law allows, RebateHub is provided “as is” and “as available”. We don’t promise that the site will always be available, error-free or up to date, or that any program will still be open when you apply. This doesn’t limit any legal warranty you have as a consumer that can’t be excluded.

Limitation of liability

RebateHub is a free information service. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for loss arising from your use of the site or reliance on its information, including a rebate that is denied, reduced or delayed, a program that changes or closes, or the work, prices or conduct of any installer. Where we are liable for loss in connection with the site, our total liability is limited to $100.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for our own intentional or gross fault, for bodily or moral injury we cause, or any other liability that can’t be excluded or limited by law. If you are a consumer, including a consumer in Québec, this section and the “No warranty” section apply only to the extent permitted by consumer protection law, such as Québec’s Consumer Protection Act and Civil Code, and they don’t limit any right or remedy that law gives you.

Responsibility for misuse

If you use RebateHub for a business, for example as an installer, a partner or an API user, you agree to compensate us for claims, losses and reasonable legal costs caused by your breach of these terms or your misuse of the site or its data. If you are a consumer, you are responsible only as provided by law, for example if you knowingly submit another person’s information without their permission.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Please contact us first so we can try to resolve any issue informally.

If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the province or territory where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts of your place of residence. Nothing in these terms requires a consumer to go to arbitration or waives the right to take part in a class action. Business users agree that the courts of Ontario have jurisdiction.

Contractor partners

Installers who receive quote requests or buy sponsored placements also agree to our partner terms and a signed partner agreement. In short: leads are consent-based and may be used only for the homeowner’s request; partners must follow anti-spam and telemarketing rules, never door-knock or imply government approval, protect personal information, delete it on request, and tell us about any breach.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms to reflect changes to the site, our services or the law. We post the new version here with its date and version number. If a change is significant, we’ll show a notice on the site at least 30 days before it takes effect, and by email if you’ve subscribed to our alerts. Changes don’t apply to anything that happened before they took effect. If you don’t agree to a change, you can stop using the site and ask us to delete your information.

General

  • If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
  • If we don’t enforce a term right away, we haven’t given up the right to enforce it later.
  • These terms, the privacy policy and, for partners, the partner agreement are the whole agreement about your use of RebateHub.
  • Language: French and English versions of these terms are published side by side. If you are in Québec, the French version is offered to you first; choosing to read and accept the English version reflects your wish to be bound by it.
