Alberta home energy rebates

14 home energy programs are open in Alberta right now, and 2 more are announced: 10 run by cities, and 6 federal. No province-wide program in Alberta pays for heat pumps right now. The federal National Heat Pump Rebate will pay $2,000, or up to $10,000 for households below the median income, once it opens (no launch date yet). The Clean Energy Improvement Program can finance the work in Airdrie, Banff and 25 other places.

Alberta has no broad provincial retrofit rebate right now, so most of the money for Alberta homeowners comes from federal programs, municipal Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) financing, and city-run incentives. We list what's open, what you can combine, and what has closed, with the date we last checked each one.

As of October 17, 2026, 10 programs run in Alberta are open or announced: Banff Deep Retrofit Program, Banff Solar Incentive Program, HAT Smart EnerGuide Home Evaluation Incentive, HAT Smart Scratch & Win and 6 more. 6 federal programs also apply.

No air-source heat pump rebate open to every homeowner is listed for Alberta right now. The National Heat Pump Rebate will add $2,000 (up to $10,000 for households below the median income) once it opens; it isn’t open yet. Loans are separate and never added to these totals.

Often, yes. Programs run by different levels of government usually stack, but each one sets its own limits. In Alberta, Banff Deep Retrofit Program, HAT Smart EnerGuide Home Evaluation Incentive, Banff Post-Purchase Rebate Program and 3 more list other programs it can be combined with. Some programs cap total incentives at the cost of the work, so check each one's rules for the same upgrade.

Yes. Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program and Calgary Home Upgrades Program offer free or enhanced support to income-qualified households. Income limits depend on household size, and some programs accept renters.

For some programs. Banff Deep Retrofit Program, HAT Smart EnerGuide Home Evaluation Incentive, Clean Energy Improvement Program (Alberta) and 3 more need an assessment before work starts, while Multigenerational Home Renovation Tax Credit, Electric Vehicle Affordability Program, Home Accessibility Tax Credit and 5 more do not. Book the assessment first if you plan several upgrades.

Canada Greener Homes Loan, Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program, Canada Greener Homes Grant, Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles Program, Canada Secondary Suite Loan Program and 8 more are closed to new applications. Each program page lists the best current alternatives.
