How it works

ZEVIP pays up to 50% of the cost of EV charging projects (75% for Indigenous organizations and communities) carried out by organizations such as businesses, utilities, non-profits, condo or property managers, and governments. Individual homeowners cannot apply.

Past calls for proposals funded chargers in multi-unit residential buildings that fall under Part 3 of the National Building Code (a common entrance and either at least three storeys or a footprint over 600 m²), with Level 2 chargers funded up to $5,000 per connector. Funding has also flowed through delivery organizations that run smaller local charger programs.

All ZEVIP streams are closed to applications, including a fast-charging corridor pilot that ran from November 2025 to March 20, 2026. Program funding runs to March 31, 2027.

Who qualifies

  • Canadian legal entities (businesses, not-for-profits, utilities, Indigenous organizations, provincial and municipal governments)
  • Individuals are not eligible
  • Multi-unit residential projects must be in Part 3 buildings under the National Building Code

How applications worked

  1. Step 1: Watch the ZEVIP page for the next call for proposals

  2. Step 2: Condo boards and landlords should also check provincial and utility charger programs
