Water heater rebates in Canada

36 current programs across Canada pay for water heaters, in 10 provinces and territories. Homeowners can stack the most in Yukon ($2,000), Nova Scotia ($1,600) and British Columbia ($1,000) today. Pick your province for the rates that fit your home.

Heat pump water heaters use far less electricity than standard tanks, and several provinces and utilities offer rebates for them. Most programs require an ENERGY STAR certified model. We list current water heater rebates by province, including gas utility offers where they exist.

Choosing a heat pump water heater

General advice. Each program’s own rules come first.

Check the space
Heat pump water heaters pull heat from the surrounding air and need room around them, ideally in a basement or utility room that stays above about 7 °C.
Plan the condensate drain
They produce condensate, so you need a nearby floor drain or a small pump.
Confirm the model is listed
Most rebates require an ENERGY STAR certified model. Check the model number before you buy.

Get up to 3 water heater quotes

Tell us where you live and what you’re planning. We’ll send your request to up to 3 installers who know the local rebate paperwork.

We’re independent. We never take rebate applications or charge you to apply; always apply through the official program.
