How it works
Switch Charlottetown let homeowners finance energy upgrades through their property rather than personal credit, at 0% interest over 15 years. Homeowners could borrow up to $40,000 or 15% of the property's value, whichever was less, for heat pumps, geothermal, heat pump water heaters, solar, insulation and air sealing, windows, doors and smart thermostats. A 5% administration fee covered energy advice, free pre- and post-project home energy assessments and help with provincial and federal rebates.
Lower-income households (net household income of $55,000 or less and an assessed value of $300,000 or less) had the admin fee waived and could get up to $1,500 back on insulation upgrades.
The program launched in July 2021 and was fully subscribed by January 2024, with 743 projects completed or under way. The City announced the end of the first funding round in August 2024, and the program is no longer accepting new projects.
Who qualifies
