Free home energy upgrades in Canada

Every province and territory has at least one way to pay for free and income-qualified upgrades: 29 current programs including 2 federal programs. The largest is Elders Housing Program, at up to $30,000 in Nunavut.

The most generous energy programs in Canada are for lower- and median-income households, and some install heat pumps, insulation or repairs at no cost. Several are open to renters too. We list programs by province with the income limits and how to apply.

How income-qualified programs work

General advice. Each program’s own rules come first.

You may qualify more easily than you think
Income limits are often set near or above the median for your household size. Some programs also accept proof of benefits like GIS or social assistance.
Renters can often apply
Several no-cost programs accept tenants with the landlord's permission.
Never pay to apply
Real income-qualified programs never charge an application fee or send salespeople door to door. Apply only through the official website.

Get up to 3 quotes

Tell us where you live and what you’re planning. We’ll send your request to up to 3 installers who know the local rebate paperwork.

We’re independent. We never take rebate applications or charge you to apply; always apply through the official program.

Request quotes

Free, no obligation. We pass your request to up to 3 independent installers who serve your area and, where a program requires it, are registered with it.
