How it works

The Canada Greener Homes Grant ran from May 2021 to February 2024 and reimbursed homeowners for upgrades recommended by a registered energy advisor, such as heat pumps, insulation, windows and doors, air sealing and solar panels. It paid up to $5,000 for retrofits plus up to $600 toward the before-and-after EnerGuide evaluations.

The program closed to new participants in early 2024. People already enrolled had until December 31, 2025 to finish their work and request payment, and requests after that date are not processed.

More than 400,000 households completed retrofits through the program, with heat pumps the most popular upgrade. Anyone searching for it today should look at the replacement programs listed below.
