Furnace replacement cost in Canada after rebates (2026)

Last verified October 19, 2026 against official program pages. How we check

As of October 19, 2026, a high-efficiency furnace typically costs $3,750 to $6,030 installed in Canada (Canadian Climate Institute (Dunsky technical report)).

Almost no program still pays for a gas furnace. The money now goes to replacing it with a heat pump, shown province by province below.

Rebates depend on your province: see heat pump rebates across Canada. How programs combine is in our stacking guide.

Questions people ask

Natural gas furnace, installed: $3,750 to $6,030, from Canadian Climate Institute (Dunsky technical report), checked October 17, 2026. Your installer’s quote decides the real price.

Almost none. In our data only a few utility programs still pay toward a high-efficiency gas furnace. Most provinces moved that money to heat pumps.

Often, but check the order of steps first. Some programs need approval or an energy assessment before work starts, and a rebate can be lost by installing first. The National Heat Pump Rebate is meant for homes replacing a failed or end-of-life system, but it isn’t open yet.

It depends on your province. Typical rebates from programs open on October 19, 2026 range from $1,500 in New Brunswick to $5,000 in British Columbia. These are typical amounts, not program maximums; the table on this page shows each province.

It is announced but not open as of October 19, 2026, so we don’t count it. If it opens before you install, it adds $2,000. Programs open today don’t need to wait.

Home size, existing ducts, the electrical panel, the brand and whether the installer removes old equipment all change the price. Compare at least two written quotes for the same scope.
