Replacing your furnace with a heat pump

Very few programs still pay for a gas furnace. Most of the money for a furnace replacement now goes to heat pumps: see heat pump rebates in the Northwest Territories.

Replacing a furnace or boiler in the Northwest Territories

The first tip comes from the program’s own steps. Each program’s rules come first.

How Renewable Energy Rebates program works in N.W.T.
Contact AEA (867-920-3333) to discuss your project before applying. Submit the online application with a recent power bill, component details and up to three quotes.
Price a heat pump option too
Most new rebates favour heat pumps or hybrid systems over a straight furnace swap. Ask for both quotes.
Look for high-efficiency ratings
Where furnace or boiler incentives exist, they usually require a high AFUE rating and a listed model.
Check fuel-switching rules
Some programs pay more for switching away from oil or propane. Note your current fuel on every application.
