What happened to the Canada Greener Homes Loan
Last day to apply
CMHC closes the application portal
The Canada Greener Homes Loan offered homeowners an unsecured, interest-free loan of between $5,000 and $40,000, repayable over 10 years, to pay for retrofits recommended in an EnerGuide evaluation. Part of the loan could be advanced upfront to cover contractor deposits.
The last day to apply was October 1, 2025, and the program is now closed to new applicants. Borrowers who were already approved may continue their retrofits and submit funding requests through the loan portal.
There is currently no federal replacement loan for individual homeowners. Many provinces and municipalities run their own low- or zero-interest retrofit loans.
The full record, with every source we checked, is on the Canada Greener Homes Loan program page. Every change we log is on the rebate tracker.
