How it works

In fall 2026 Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation combined the Home Energy Savings Program with the Provincial Home Repair Program. Energy efficiency is now one of the repair categories, alongside structural, heating, roofing, water, electrical and septic repairs, and work that qualified under HESP qualifies here.

Funding is a forgivable loan of up to $10,000 ($13,000 in Labrador). It does not have to be repaid if you stay in the home for five years; moving out sooner may mean repaying part of it. The lifetime maximum is $30,000, and past recipients can reapply after five years. Pre- and post-inspections are no longer required for these repairs.

The former HESP grant of up to $5,000 stopped taking applications on June 15, 2026; applications received before then are still being processed.
