How it works
Guelph Greener Homes provides interest-free loans of up to $50,000 with no admin fee, repaid over 10 years through the property tax bill. A 20% down payment, to a maximum of $10,000, is required. Eligible upgrades include insulation, air sealing, windows and doors, air-source and cold-climate heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, heat recovery, solar PV and solar hot water. Thermostats only qualify alongside other upgrades.
Loan funding is almost fully committed, so new applicants join a waitlist. A separate grant of up to $15,000 for air-source heat pumps is still available to low-income homeowners whose property is assessed at $350,000 or less. Grant recipients must pay 50% of the project cost.
Who qualifies
- Low-rise residential property in Guelph with a City tax account, more than 5 years old. All registered owners consent.
- No back taxes, liens or title disputes, and work has not started.
- Enrol in a 12-month pre-authorized payment plan for property taxes and loan repayment.
- Grant only: primary residence, current value assessment of $350,000 or less, and household income under the limits.
How to apply
Step 1: Register through the program's online portal (loan applicants join the waitlist).
Step 2: Once approved, submit a pre-retrofit energy audit and contractor quotes to request funds.
Step 3: Complete the work, then submit a post-retrofit audit and invoices to receive the final payment.

Free, no obligation. We pass your request to up to 3 independent installers who serve your area and, where a program requires it, are registered with it.

Book an energy assessment
Many rebates need an EnerGuide assessment before any work starts. We'll pass your request to up to 2 energy advisors who serve your area. Free to ask, no obligation; the advisor quotes their fee, and some programs rebate part of it.
