How it works
The Electric Vehicle Affordability Program replaced the old iZEV rebate and applies to new eligible vehicles bought or leased from February 16, 2026 until March 31, 2031, or until funding runs out. The discount is taken off the bill of sale or lease by an enrolled dealer, so you do not apply yourself.
In 2026, battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles get $5,000 and plug-in hybrids get $2,500. The amount steps down each year (to $4,000 and $2,000 in 2027, and down to $2,000 and $1,000 by 2030-2031), and it is based on the date the dealer submits the claim, not your purchase date.
To qualify, the vehicle must be new (or a demo under 10,000 km), made in Canada or in a country with which Canada has a free-trade agreement, and have a final transaction price of $50,000 or less unless it was built in Canada. Leases of 48 months or longer get the full amount; shorter leases of at least 12 months are prorated. Individuals can receive one incentive over the life of the program.
Who qualifies
- New light-duty vehicle (under 8,500 lb) bought or leased on or after February 16, 2026; demonstrators with under 10,000 km also qualify
- Made in Canada or in a country with which Canada has a free-trade agreement
- Final transaction value of $50,000 or less, unless the vehicle was made in Canada (no price cap)
- Must be highway-capable and meet Canadian motor vehicle safety standards
- Leases must be at least 12 months; leases of 48 months or more get the full amount
- One incentive per individual over the program; businesses and governments up to 10
