How it works
The City of Red Deer runs an annual rebate to encourage residents to switch to a smart thermostat. For 2026, the City credits $50 to your utility account when you buy and install a qualifying ENERGY STAR certified smart thermostat at a home in Red Deer.
The thermostat must be bought new in 2026 and appear on the City's approved product list. Only one rebate is allowed per utility account, and you can't get it if you've used the program before. Funding is limited and the program closes when the money is spent, or on December 31, 2026, whichever comes first.
Who qualifies
- You live in Red Deer and have a City of Red Deer utility account.
- You bought a new smart thermostat from the qualifying list in 2026 and installed it at a property in Red Deer.
- You haven't received this rebate before.
- You aren't claiming the same thermostat under another funding program.
How to apply
Step 1: Check the City's approved product list and confirm your wiring supports the thermostat (most need a C-wire).
Step 2: Keep an itemized receipt showing the store, product, price and purchase date.
Step 3: Submit the Smart Thermostat application form with your receipt by December 31, 2026.
