How it works

Calgary's residential CEIP lets homeowners finance up to 100% of eligible energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades, to a maximum of $50,000, and repay over up to 20 years on their property tax bill. Early repayment is allowed without penalty.

The City estimates the interest rate for the next intake at about 6.00% to 6.10%; the exact range is posted about a week before applications open and the rate is fixed for your loan. It is a loan, not a rebate: all borrowed money is repaid.

The City's page says residential CEIP is closed until winter 2026/2027. Residents can sign up for email notice of the reopening.

Who qualifies

  • Owner listed on the Certificate of Title of a low-rise residential property in Calgary (detached or semi-detached house, row house, townhome, or qualifying residential part of a mixed-use or multi-unit building); new builds do not qualify
  • No property tax arrears or foreclosure, and other financial requirements on the City's page
  • Upgrades from the CEIP eligible list, installed by a CEIP-qualified contractor; no DIY work
  • Application approved before any work starts
  • Upgrades completed by November 15 are added to the next year's tax bill

How to apply

  1. Step 1: Sign up for City of Calgary CEIP email updates to hear when intake reopens

  2. Step 2: When open, submit the pre-qualification form through Alberta Municipalities at ceip.abmunis.ca

  3. Step 3: Get an EnerGuide evaluation, choose a qualified contractor and submit the project application

  4. Step 4: Sign the agreements, complete the work and a post-project EnerGuide evaluation, then repay through property taxes starting the following June 30
