How it works
HAT Smart offers rebates to City of Medicine Hat utility customers. The 2026 Existing Homes incentive pays up to $5,000 per home for upgrades recommended in an EnerGuide evaluation, including insulation, windows, doors, tankless water heaters, heat or energy recovery ventilators and solar panels.
For 2026 the program requires both a pre- and post-renovation EnerGuide evaluation, and work must be done by a licensed installer with a City business licence. As of September 29, 2026 the program is fully subscribed and no longer accepting requests for the funding queue.
Other 2026 HAT Smart streams include a $250 utility credit for EnerGuide evaluations, a new-home incentive of up to $10,000, water conservation rebates and a scratch-and-win offer for small energy-saving items. The 2026 program year ends December 15, 2026.
Who qualifies
