How it works

The Town of Canmore offers a yearly incentive for homeowners who install rooftop solar PV. For 2026 it funded 20 incentives of $1,250 each, for new systems of at least 3 kW on single-family homes, duplexes, tri- and four-plexes and individual townhouses.

If more people apply than there is funding, the Town picks recipients by lottery. Systems already installed don't qualify, and selected projects must finish installation and electrical inspection by December 15.

Applications for 2026 are closed. The Town says to check back for the 2027 round.

Who qualifies

  • Residential home in Canmore: single-family, duplex, tri- or four-plex, or individual townhouse.
  • New rooftop solar PV system of at least 3 kW. Existing systems aren't eligible.
  • Installation and electrical inspection must be completed by December 15 of the program year.

How applications worked

  1. Step 1: Watch the Town's Solar Incentives page for the 2027 intake.

  2. Step 2: Apply during the intake window. If applications exceed funding, a lottery decides recipients.
