How it works
Efficiency Manitoba pays a flat rebate for installing a cold climate air source heat pump in an existing home: $2,000 for a centrally ducted system or $1,500 for a ductless system. The heat pump can supplement electric resistance or natural gas heating, and homes converting from propane or fuel oil also qualify.
A registered Efficiency Manitoba contractor obtains the permits, installs the system and submits the rebate application within 90 days of installation, once the system is paid for. Efficiency Manitoba mails the cheque, and a post-installation inspection may be required.
The heat pump cannot replace an existing heat pump, and new homes and seasonal properties are excluded. Efficiency Manitoba recommends improving insulation and getting a pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation first so the system can be sized properly.
Who qualifies
- Existing primary residence in Manitoba (new homes and seasonal homes are not eligible)
- Heat pump supplements electric resistance or natural gas heating, or replaces propane or fuel oil
- Does not replace an existing heat pump system
- Installed by an Efficiency Manitoba registered contractor with the required permits
How to apply
Step 1: Choose a registered contractor and confirm the model qualifies
Step 2: The contractor obtains permits and installs the heat pump
Step 3: After you pay, the contractor submits the rebate application within 90 days of installation
Step 4: Efficiency Manitoba mails the rebate cheque
