How it works
Kitchener Utilities is owned by the City of Kitchener and supplies natural gas to homes in the city. It runs its own rebates, separate from Enbridge Gas, for residential properties with an active Kitchener Utilities gas account.
The smart thermostat rebate is a $75 on-bill credit when you replace a manual or programmable thermostat with a smart model. It applies to detached, semi-detached and row townhouses heated mainly by a natural gas furnace or boiler, one per address. If the thermostat cost less than $75, you get the purchase price.
The condensing water heater rebate is a $500 on-bill credit when you replace a natural gas water heater with an ENERGY STAR condensing model rated 0.86 UEF or higher. Kitchener Utilities promotes it with its rental water heaters, and qualifying rentals include tankless and other high efficiency condensing models.
Who qualifies
- Residential property in the City of Kitchener with an active Kitchener Utilities natural gas meter and account.
- Smart thermostat: detached, semi-detached or row townhouse heated mainly by a gas furnace or boiler, replacing a thermostat that is not already smart.
- Water heater: replacing an existing natural gas water heater below 0.86 UEF with a condensing model at 0.86 UEF or higher. The current offers page says you must be the property owner and not already using a tankless water heater.
- Credits go to the registered owner's utility account.
