What Peak Perks pays for each upgrade
UpgradeUp to
Enrolment incentive per thermostat$75Virtual prepaid Mastercard, up to 3 devices per home. Replacing a thermostat does not earn a second enrolment payment.$75
Annual participation incentive$20 per yearFor example, the 2026 payment goes to devices enrolled before September 30, 2025.$20

How it works

Peak Perks is Ontario's province-wide demand response program for smart thermostats. On a limited number of peak-demand summer weekday afternoons, the IESO can raise your setpoint by up to 2°C for no more than three hours, sometimes after a short pre-cool. You can override any event from your thermostat or app.

You get a $75 virtual prepaid Mastercard when you enrol, plus $20 for each year you stay enrolled. Incentives are paid for up to three thermostats per home. Renters and condo owners with their own central AC can join. Units on a building's central HVAC system cannot.

Who qualifies

  • Ontario residential electricity customer with central air conditioning (including a heat pump that provides central cooling) controlled by an eligible Wi-Fi smart thermostat from Alarm.com, ecobee, Emerson, Google Nest, Honeywell Home or Trane.
  • Renters are eligible. Condo and apartment units qualify only if they have their own dedicated air conditioning.
  • Not enrolled in another Ontario program that automatically adjusts your thermostat (Sarnia Saves thermostat participants are the exception). Hydro One customers choose between Peak Perks and myEnergy Rewards.
  • Cornwall Electric customers are excluded.

How to apply

  1. Step 1: Enrol at peakperks.ca or through your thermostat maker's app.

  2. Step 2: Choose your thermostat provider and accept the program terms.

  3. Step 3: Watch for an email confirming your enrolment. The $75 card arrives within about 60 days.
