How it works
Better Homes Burlington started in 2023 as a City of Burlington pilot under the community Climate Action Plan. It offered zero-interest loans of up to $10,000 for the purchase and installation of an air-source heat pump, with up to 20 loans in the first round. Council approved a second round in 2024, with applications accepted until the end of December 2024 or until the program was full.
To qualify, the home had to be a detached, semi-detached or townhouse in Burlington, heated with gas or oil, with a City property tax account in good standing for the past five years. All owners had to consent, and owners had to enrol in the City's pre-authorized property tax payment plan.
The City has said the zero-interest loan has come to an end. Its Better Homes Burlington concierge service still helps residents find home energy rebates, incentives and resources.
