How it works
Energy Retrofit Assistance is a pilot run by the Centre for Community Energy Transformation (CCET). CCET is a non-profit set up and funded by the City of Brampton, the City of Mississauga, the Town of Caledon and the Region of Peel. The pilot is for lower-income households in Peel whose homes are drafty, too cold in winter, too hot in summer or expensive to run.
If you qualify, you get a free EnerGuide audit from a certified energy advisor and help from an energy coach. Selected upgrades are then installed by vetted contractors at no cost to you. Depending on the audit, upgrades can include an air-source heat pump, a heat pump water heater, attic and wall insulation, and sometimes windows. The program says upgrades average about $11,500 per household. It also provides carbon monoxide monitors and helps you combine ERA with utility and other programs.
Applicants are prioritized by need, based on income, energy burden and the condition of the home. Space is limited. If the pilot is full when you apply, you go on a waitlist and may be referred to other programs.
Who qualifies
- You live in Mississauga, Brampton or Caledon and own the home or hold the gas or electricity account. Renters need the landlord's consent.
- Household income is under the program limit (for example $47,090 for one person, $94,179 for four, $124,586 for seven or more).
- You also qualify if you received benefits such as GIS, Ontario Works, ODSP, LEAP or OESP in the past 12 months.
- Detached homes, townhomes and condos or apartments can apply. Applicants are prioritized by need.
How to apply
Step 1: Fill in the short online application on CCET's Energy Retrofit Assistance page, or call 1-289-998-0923.
Step 2: If you qualify, an energy coach arranges your free audit and plans the upgrades with you.
Step 3: Vetted contractors install the upgrades at no cost, followed by a check-in after installation.
