Peterborough home energy rebates and loans

Peterborough homeowners can borrow up to $50,000 for a heat pump and other upgrades through the city’s Better Homes Peterborough. For an air-source heat pump, Ontario’s Home Renovation Savings Program pays up to $7,500 if you heat with electricity, oil or propane, or $2,000 with natural gas. The federal National Heat Pump Rebate will add $2,000, or up to $10,000 below the median income, once it opens.

Peterborough’s older neighbourhoods are full of early-1900s brick houses, many of them built long before modern insulation standards. Natural gas heats most homes in the city.

How Better Homes Peterborough works

Non-energy work can be financed up to 30% of the cost of the energy upgrades.

The performance incentives depend on how much energy the home saves, which is measured with assessments before and after the work.
