London home energy rebates and loans

London homeowners can borrow up to $40,000 for a heat pump and other upgrades through the city’s BetterHomes London. Most London homes heat with natural gas, so Ontario’s Home Renovation Savings Program pays up to $2,000 for an air-source heat pump (up to $7,500 if you heat with electricity, oil or propane). The federal National Heat Pump Rebate will add $2,000, or up to $10,000 below the median income, once it opens.

London’s housing runs from Victorian and Edwardian brick homes in Old North and Wortley Village to post-war bungalows and newer subdivisions on the city’s edges. Most homes heat with natural gas.

How BetterHomes London works

Open

BetterHomes London is the City of London's home energy retrofit financing program, launched in spring 2026 with support from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' Green Municipal Fund. You repay through your property tax bill over 10, 15 or 20 years, and you can pay it off early with no penalty.

Plan a bigger project
BetterHomes London projects must be worth at least $15,000 and cut the home’s energy use by at least 25%, so a single small upgrade won’t qualify on its own.
Budget for the assessment
You pay for the home energy assessment up front (the program says most people pay about $500 to $700), before the loan is approved.
Ignore cold calls
BetterHomes London says it never cold-calls or goes door to door, and contractors can’t confirm your eligibility or loan terms.
