Montréal home energy rebates and loans

The city’s RénoPlex offers grants of up to $52,000. For an air-source heat pump, rebates add up to $14,000 today from the Énergir Dual-Energy Grants (heat pump added to a natural gas system) and the LogisVert Efficient Homes Program. The federal National Heat Pump Rebate will add $2,000, or up to $10,000 below the median income, once it opens.

Montréal is a city of plexes: duplexes and triplexes with exterior staircases, many built before 1950 with brick walls and little insulation. Most homes heat with electricity from Hydro-Québec, often baseboard heaters, so a heat pump mainly cuts winter power bills.

Utility rebates only go to that utility’s customers. Check the name on your bill.

Wait for approval, then get permits
RénoPlex work can’t start until the City accepts your application, which can take three to four months. You’ll also need your borough’s permits.
Check the valuation first
RénoPlex is limited to modestly valued buildings of one to five units, so check your building against the program’s value threshold before applying.
Six units or more?
Owners of older rental buildings with six or more units use Réno logement abordable instead, which requires any oil boiler, furnace or water heater to be replaced as part of the work.
