How it works

Énergir, Québec's main natural gas distributor, offers $100 per eligible ENERGY STAR smart thermostat, capped at 75% of the device cost and limited to one per central gas heating system. It is open to current and future residential customers in single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes and residential buildings with central natural gas heating.

A low-income supplement adds $220 for a low-income owner of a single-family home or condo. For a home or building rented to low-income tenants, the supplement depends on the share of low-income units and is split 40% to the owner and 60% to the tenants. The supplement request must be filed before the thermostat is installed. Énergir also offers dual-energy and high-efficiency equipment grants, which are calculated individually in the Customer Space.

Who qualifies

  • Current or future Énergir residential customer
  • Single-family home, duplex, triplex or residential building with a central natural gas heating system
  • Thermostat is ENERGY STAR certified and on Énergir's eligible list
  • Supplement: household income within Énergir's low-income thresholds (owner-occupant), or low-income tenants in the building

How to apply

  1. Step 1: Buy an eligible ENERGY STAR smart thermostat. If you want the low-income supplement, file the supplement request before installing it.

  2. Step 2: Install it yourself or through an Énergir partner.

  3. Step 3: Submit the grant request in your Énergir Customer Space within 30 days of the purchase date on your invoice.
