Nelson home energy rebates and loans

Nelson homeowners can borrow up to $16,000 for a heat pump and other upgrades through the Nelson Hydro On-Bill Financing. For an air-source heat pump, rebates add up to $7,500 today from the Home Renovation Rebate Program, the BC Hydro Air Source Heat Pump Bonus Rebate (Fall 2026) and the city’s HomeSave. The federal National Heat Pump Rebate will add $2,000, or up to $10,000 below the median income, once it opens.

Nelson is a small Kootenay city known for its heritage houses, with colder, snowier winters than the coast. The City runs its own electric utility, Nelson Hydro, which lets homeowners repay retrofit loans on their power bill.
