Getting insulation right in British Columbia
The first tip comes from the program’s own steps. Each program’s rules come first.
- How HRR works in B.C.
- Check that your home and upgrade qualify on the BC Hydro or FortisBC rebate pages. Get quotes from HPCN contractors and have the work done.
- Start with the attic
- Attics are usually the cheapest place to add insulation and often have the fastest payback.
- Seal before you insulate
- Air-seal the attic floor, top plates and penetrations first. Insulation slows heat; it doesn't stop air leaks.
- Keep the paperwork
- Rebates are often based on the area and R-value added. Ask for invoices that list both, and photos before and after.
