If you were counting on a program that closed: what replaced Canada Greener Homes Loan, what replaced OHPA, what replaced CGHG and what replaced HSR.

Replacing your furnace with a heat pump

Very few programs still pay for a gas furnace. Most of the money for a furnace replacement now goes to heat pumps: see heat pump rebates in Nova Scotia.

Replacing a furnace or boiler in Nova Scotia

The first tip comes from the program’s own steps. Each program’s rules come first.

How HEA works in N.S.
If your household may qualify on income, first apply for the Moderate Income Rebate so the assessment fee can be waived. Book an initial assessment with an Efficiency Nova Scotia delivery agent partner ($199 fee unless waived).
Price a heat pump option too
Most new rebates favour heat pumps or hybrid systems over a straight furnace swap. Ask for both quotes.
Look for high-efficiency ratings
Where furnace or boiler incentives exist, they usually require a high AFUE rating and a listed model.
Check fuel-switching rules
Some programs pay more for switching away from oil or propane. Note your current fuel on every application.
