Saskatoon home energy rebates and loans

Saskatoon homeowners can borrow up to $60,000 for a heat pump and other upgrades through the Saskatoon Home Energy Loan Program (HELP). The federal National Heat Pump Rebate will add $2,000, or up to $10,000 below the median income, once it opens.

Saskatoon has very cold, dry winters and long, sunny summers. Nearly all homes heat with natural gas, and many neighbourhoods are full of post-war bungalows.

How HELP works

Open

HELP lends Saskatoon homeowners between $1,000 and $40,000 for energy efficiency, renewable energy and water-saving upgrades, or up to $60,000 with proof that the project will cut home energy use by at least 50%. Loans are repaid through property taxes, can be paid off early without penalty, and are registered as an interest on the property title, so the balance must be repaid or taken over by the buyer when the home is sold.
