How it works

Chauffez vert paid homeowners to remove an oil or propane furnace or boiler and install a new electric or renewable heating system. The amount depended on the housing type and the fuel being replaced.

The government announced in July 2025 that the program would end. Work had to be finished and applications received by March 31, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Applicants with incomplete files, or who still had to provide their social insurance number, had until June 30, 2026. Since December 31, 2023, Québec has banned installing new oil heating appliances, including replacing one oil appliance with another.
