Saint John home energy rebates and loans

For an air-source heat pump, the Total Home Energy Savings Program pays up to $1,500. The federal National Heat Pump Rebate will add $2,000, or up to $10,000 below the median income, once it opens.

Saint John is one of Canada’s oldest cities, and its housing shows it: more than a third of homes were built before 1961, many of them wood-frame houses and flats on the hills around the harbour. Electricity is the most common heating source, and in the city it comes from Saint John Energy rather than NB Power.

Utility rebates only go to that utility’s customers. Check the name on your bill.

Keep your backup heat
A rented Zero30 heat pump can’t be your only heat source. Keep your baseboards or furnace working and set them a degree or two below the heat pump.
Stack the provincial rebate
Saint John Energy says its rental heat pump models qualify for rebates through NB Power’s Total Home Energy Savings Program. Check that program’s rules before you sign.
Mind the 36-month minimum
Ending a heat pump rental early means paying the rest of the first 36 months plus a removal fee, so rent only if you plan to stay.
