How it works

EESP targets homes that need major efficiency work, especially insulation and air sealing. After registration and income verification, a service organization performs a pre-upgrade evaluation and an NB Power-approved contractor of your choice carries out the approved work, followed by a post-upgrade evaluation.

Mini-split heat pumps installed through the program come with a 10-year parts and labour warranty and three free deep cleanings. Homes leaving oil heat have the oil tank, furnace or boiler removed and disposed of at no cost.

The program is open regardless of heating fuel or electricity provider, including customers of Saint John Energy, Edmundston Energy and Perth-Andover. NB Power says the program is fully subscribed for 2025/26 and beyond for new registrations and is keeping a waiting list.

Who qualifies

  • You own the home in New Brunswick and live in it
  • Combined gross household income of $70,000 or less (line 15000 of each adult's Notice of Assessment, adults 19 and over)
  • Any heating type and any electricity provider

How to apply

  1. Step 1: Register online and upload each adult's latest CRA Notice of Assessment (couples who split pension income send both full T1 returns instead)

  2. Step 2: New registrations go on a waiting list; do not reapply or call to check your place

  3. Step 3: When funding allows, NB Power sends an acceptance letter or email and a service organization books the pre-upgrade evaluation

  4. Step 4: An approved contractor completes the work, followed by a post-upgrade evaluation
