Performance tier 3 / 4 / 5 (homes 300 m³ or less)$500 / $2,500 / $6,500$6,500
Prescriptive option (at least five upgrades)Up to $15,000Per-measure amounts, e.g. $2,250 for R-24 above-grade walls, $2,000 for a geothermal heat pump$15,000

How it works

Builders or owners register before applying for a building permit, pay a $99 plus HST fee, and have their plans modelled by a certified energy advisor, usually within three to four weeks. Construction must be finished within 12 months of registration unless NB Power agrees to more time.

An on-site evaluation of the finished home sets the incentive. Under the performance option, homes over 300 m³ earn $750, $6,250 or $15,000 at tiers 3 to 5, and smaller homes earn $500, $2,500 or $6,500. Under the prescriptive option, owners choose at least five listed upgrades, up to $15,000. A project receives whichever option pays more; the two cannot be combined. Criteria were updated on June 5, 2025 to reflect higher building code standards.

Who qualifies

  • Building a new home in New Brunswick, as the builder or the future owner
  • Register before applying for the building permit so plans can be modelled
  • Air-source heat pumps must be on the federal cold-climate list to earn tier 4 or 5 amounts

How to apply

  1. Step 1: Register online or call 1-800-663-6272 and choose a service organization

  2. Step 2: Pay the $99 + HST modelling fee and review the modelling report
