What happened to City of Vancouver Heat Pump Top-Up

  1. City adds a top-up to provincial heat pump rebates

  2. City ends the single-family top-up and shifts incentives to multi-family buildings

From 2018 the City of Vancouver added a top-up, most recently up to $4,000, to provincial heat pump rebates for single-family homes and duplexes that replaced fossil-fuel heating with an all-electric air source heat pump.

In 2023 the City ended the single-family heat pump top-up, made a final payment to cover applications already in the queue, and shifted its incentives toward multi-family buildings. The City does not process heat pump rebate applications itself and refers homeowners to a CleanBC Better Homes Energy Coach.

The full record, with every source we checked, is on the City of Vancouver Heat Pump Top-Up program page. Every change we log is on the rebate tracker.

Before you book: what each replacement needs

Not sure which apply to your home? The heat pumps rebates in British Columbia page lists every program by heating fuel, and the British Columbia rebates hub covers every upgrade.

If you already applied

A closed program usually still honours files it accepted before the cut-off, on its own deadlines. Follow up with City of Vancouver directly: we don't take applications and can't check a file for you.

Planning new work? Some replacements need pre-approval or an energy assessment before anything is installed. Read the guide to stacking heat pump rebates for the order to do things in, and how to spot a rebate scam before you sign with anyone who mentions a "government program".

Frequently asked questions

No. The City says it doesn't administer heat pump rebate applications and refers residents to CleanBC Better Homes energy coaches.

Yes. Heat pump installs in Vancouver need a mechanical permit, according to the program record. Ask your installer to pull it.
