How it works

The Better Buildings Program lends money for upgrades that reduce annual energy use, such as insulation, air sealing and heat pumps. Residential loans are capped at $50,000 and at 25% of the property's assessed value, with a one-time $500 administration fee. Commercial buildings can borrow up to $100,000.

Repayment is added to annual property taxes as a local improvement charge. Owners in participating municipalities and on rural properties outside municipal boundaries can apply.

Who qualifies

  • Own property in a participating Yukon municipality or in rural Yukon
  • Upgrades must reduce annual energy consumption
