National Heat Pump Rebate: what installers need to know

The federal government announced the National Heat Pump Rebate on October 8, 2026: $2,000 for eligible homeowners and up to $10,000 for households below the median income, for an electric cold-climate air-source heat pump on the federal Eligible Products List.

It isn’t open yet. The launch date, the income cut-off and the detailed rules haven’t been published. What’s known so far: homeowners apply online before buying, approval is expected within 24 hours, no energy audit is needed, and receipts are uploaded after installation.

The government says it can be combined with existing provincial programs, so every province’s heat pump rebates below still matter to your quotes.

Questions

Through the program, not through RebateHub. We don’t run or speed up any registration. Start on the official National Heat Pump Rebate page (canada.ca), which explains who can take part. The list on this page shows which programs set the rule, in the words of our program record.

We check each program against its official sources and note the date. The records here were last verified October 12, 2026. Rules change, so confirm on the official page before you quote.

For programs that require a registration, yes: partners confirm they hold what each program requires, plus the licences and insurance for the work, before we send a request for it.

Not announced. As of October 12, 2026, the government hasn’t said whether heat pumps installed before the portal opens will qualify. Until it does, tell customers who want this rebate to check the official page before they buy.

The announcement doesn’t name a contractor registration. The provincial programs it stacks with often do; see each province’s heat pump lead page for the rules in our data.
