How it works

Efficiency Nova Scotia offers a free smart thermostat (valued at up to $160), professionally installed at no charge. The installer also shows you how to use it.

During the visit, the installer checks whether the home qualifies for other free devices, such as indoor and outdoor motion sensors, solar-powered outdoor security lights, humidity sensors for bathroom fans, faucet aerators, water-saving showerheads and thermostatic shower valves.

Both homeowners and renters can take part; renters need written permission from their landlord or property manager.

Who qualifies

  • The home is electrically heated, has a residential utility rate code and is lived in year-round as a residence
  • At least one smart thermostat must be installed, replacing an analog or non-programmable digital thermostat in a high-traffic area
  • Renters need written permission from the landlord or property manager
  • You accept the program terms and conditions

How to apply

  1. Step 1: Fill out the booking form on the Efficiency Nova Scotia website

  2. Step 2: An installation partner (Homesol or Summerhill) contacts you to book a time
