How it works
takeCHARGE pays for measurable reductions in air leakage. For new construction, the rebate rises with how airtight the finished home is: $200 at 2.5 air changes per hour, $300 at 1.5, and $750 at 0.6 or better, verified by a blower door test within 12 months of the occupancy permit.
Existing homes earn $200, $475 or $750 for a 10%, 20% or 30%+ improvement between pre- and post-retrofit blower door tests. Homes built before 2014 that are getting an attic insulation upgrade can bundle air sealing done by an approved installer at $0.50 per square foot sealed, up to $750, paid to the installer. All homes need an HRV or air exchanger.
Who qualifies
- Primary heat is electric (existing homes may instead use at least 15,000 kWh a year)
- Homeowner or landlord with an active electricity account
- Home on a permanent foundation used as a primary residence, with an HRV or air exchanger
How to apply
Step 1: Choose the pathway that fits your project
Step 2: Have the required blower door test(s) done by an approved professional, or use an approved insulation installer for the bundled option
Step 3: Apply online or by mail (the installer submits the bundled option); rebates are credited to your bill within about eight weeks
