How it works

The Climate Change Secretariat gives cabin owners a one-time, non-repayable grant of up to $5,000 per cabin for CSA-certified solar PV or wind systems and the batteries that support them, including shipping of the equipment. Labour is not an eligible cost.

You must be approved before buying or installing anything, then finish the project within 12 months of approval and send receipts and photos of the installation. The grant is paid about four weeks after the completed paperwork is received.

A fixed amount of funding is available each year and is given out first come, first served, so it can run out before year end.

Who qualifies

  • Nunavut resident (primary residence in Nunavut), 19 or older, who owns the cabin (signed statutory declaration)
  • Cabin is a permanent structure in a remote location used for camping or traditional land use, not a primary residence
  • One grant per cabin; approval required before purchase and installation
