How it works

The province's point-of-sale rebates for electric cars and e-bikes are now listed by the province as past programs. A separate rebate for medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles, open only to businesses, non-profits, municipalities and First Nations, stopped taking eligibility forms on April 15, 2026.

From October 1, 2026, owners pay a levy every two years when they issue or renew a vehicle permit: $500 for battery-electric vehicles and $250 for plug-in hybrids registered at 5,000 kg or less. Regular hybrids are not charged.
